"Risk Management and Ergonomics In The Workplace"
by Clayton S. Shoup, CIH, CSP, Zurich NA
Risk management is practiced in every business whether or not a formal risk management program is in place. In broad terms, risk management is the assessment of the variety of risks that a business may face followed by efforts to identify and take steps to minimize those risks so they will not present a significant impact. This presentation will review the principles of risk management, the steps businesses take to address risks and discuss many of the types of risks that businesses prepare for today.
Next, we’ll delve further into one aspect of risk management, ergonomics. Ergonomics is an important, yet frequently under emphasized part of many risk management programs. This is particularly notable when you consider that strain injuries from manual material handling, awkward postures and repetitive motions represent one of the most frequent causes of occupational and non-occupational injuries.
